Dagger Thigh Straps (Sit On Top)

These robust burly padded thigh straps are designed to give greater control over sit on top kayaks especially for surfing and white water or anywhere where control over the angle of your kayak is required. Tilt to carve the wave, with practice even roll a wave ski.
Curved to sit nicely on your body without rubbing they lock you securely into the seat. Super tough buckles, cut and shaped for security and comfort. Easy to adjust even on the water

Also can be used as a very comfortable shoulder carry strap when transporting the boat to and from the water

To release you just straighten your legs.

The Dagger straps have right and left sides, the wide end contacts the thigh and the skinny end contacts the shin. The padded side goes against the leg.

Thigh Straps aid performance and control. Sit-inside kayakers will often offer that sit on tops can’t control lean and roll. With knee straps you can Eskimo roll, control boat lean, brace and “wear your kayak” in a similar manner to a sit inside that is one with a deck for your knees and thigh to brace against.

Thigh Braces are a strap along the edge of your sit on top starting at around hip level and ending at the ankle, one on each side.

When seated with your feet on the foot rest and your knees slightly bent, put the strap over your legs so your knees are on the outside of the straps and pull up to tighten, choose your tension making sure not to allow your legs to be comfortable

If you pull your knees towards the centre line of the kayak you will have a great grip on your kayak and can rock it from side to side allowing you to brace and carve a turn, roll etc.

Knee Straps are great for all rough water activities like surfing, rock gardens, and white water. Not only will your performance be better, but you will be safer with the ability to hold onto your kayak after wipeouts with your legs instead of your paddle leash, and with practice roll before you get out of control.

To escape simply straighten your legs and the straps fall away much easier than getting out of a sit in side kayaks

It’s a good idea to practice a couple of times in a comfortable situation on land or in nice warm water perhaps with a buddy  so there is no fear of the unknown and you can practise recovery

Fitting Thigh Straps to your sit on top kayak

Thigh strap have clips at each end that attach to deck fittings mounted on your kayak. Most sit on top kayaks for surf and white water have padeyes/ inchworm eyes pre-installed at the factory. If yours doesn’t you’ll need to install them ask us about options. Some older models may need a strap threaded through an inset, check for compatibility.

Make sure if you are installing mounting points to not go to long stop at the ankle to avoid foot entanglement.
