Utilised correctly this will keep your kayak afloat and horizontal making it easier to recover, these are essential for paddling in white water.
If your boat fills up in one end it becomes a lot more difficult to recover, as the end under water must be lifted (full of water at 1kg per litre) as well as being subject to any currents under the water holding it pinned against river features.
Many kayaks have a pillar down the centre of the kayak so these airbags are designed to be used as a pair. You will need to use two bags (one either side of the pillar) even if there is no pillar. (or try an alternative wider bag style such as a canoe air bag)
Stern Bags are longer than bow bags but are often appropriate to fit inside the front of longer kayaks like downriver kayaks etc where there is more length past your feet than in shorter “white Water” boats like crossover, creek, river running and play boats.
