Above the water, P&H’s Scorpio II deck has been designed around the requirements of modern sea kayakers, with a whole plethora of additional details such as recesses for secure split paddle storage, moulded-in inserts to take a kayak sail mast foot, no other polyethylene sea kayak on the market is as fully featured and expedition-ready as this.

P&H gave used their industry leading precision machinery, exclusively sourced and developed materials, and over 25 years of rotomoulding experience to produce the advanced sandwich layer construction which they call CoreLite X.

CoreLite X provides an excellent stiffness to weight ratio enhances the performance of P&H’s hull designs, narrowing the gap between polyethylene and composite. It works by having 3 layers of polyethlene with the centre layer being lighter to reduce weight and increase stiffness.

*Due to the manufacturing process weights can vary by +/- 1.5kg. Published weights relate to Skeg models with no additional options; for example, the Skudder System adds approximately 0.5kg to the overall weight.

Founded in 1968, P&H quickly established a range of successful canoes and kayaks spanning various disciplines, with standout models such as the Phazer slalom kayak, and the MKII Surfer still being fondly remembered today. Producing the Orinoco under licence from Pyranha in 1975 was the beginning of an enduring relationship between the companies, and several more of Pyranha’s models were produced under licence by P&H in the following years. It was in 1979 that P&H produced its first sea kayaks (the same year that current Production Manager, Perran Shreeve joined the company), namely the ‘Umnak’ and ‘Icefloe’ designed by Derek C. Hutchinson. In the mid-90s the Capella set the benchmark for polyethylene sea kayaks, followed by the composite Capella in 1997; a few years later in 2003 Dave Patrick retired, selling the company to Pyranha who continue P&H’s heritage to this day through world-renowned models such as the Cetus and Aries.
