Plastic Welding Rod

Weld Rods are a 10-pack of weld rods available in a variety of colours to match kayak colours (Range of Perception, Wilderness Systems and Dagger). They are made from polyethylene and are compatible with most roto-moulded plastic kayaks of most brands. Use to repair small holes caused by removing hardware or to patch a small crack or deep scratch. You will need a heat gun or plastic welder to heat up the plastic on the surface to be repaired as well as the the rod to weld (melt) the two parts together.

Plastic welding sticks, sold in a ten pack. Available in assorted colours, one colour per pack. Handy for School, Hire, club and other kayak fleets. Each stick is approximately 10 inches long. One stick is typically needed to repair a screw hole, pinhole or small crack. Long cracks, multiple screw holes, patches and other applications will require more. Each stick will weld approximately 5-6 inches of crack, or patch edge, without burning your fingers. Sticks are linear polyethylene plastic that is compatible with most makes and models of rotationally moulded kayaks (such as Perception, Wilderness Systems, Mad River, Dagger, Surge (Roto moulded not the light weight thermoform) Finn, Spirit, Ocean Kayak, and Necky).

Cross Link poly cannot be welded (This is not common and will be noted in the marketing material of the kayak if you have doubts ask your manufacturer or supplier (shop) especially if you have an older “light weight” plastic roto moulded kayak ).
Blow moulded kayaks typically cannot be welded.
Multi layer plastics are difficult to weld.
Some thermoform kayaks CAN be welded but mostly they are fixed with a glued patch or fibre glass.
Please expect some variation of stick construction and colour. Some sticks may be extruded like spaghetti strands and will be round in cross section. Some are cut from sheets like tiny lumber and will be roughly square or rectangular in cross section. Weld rod is often cut from malformed kayaks. Die lot colours are subject to change.

Welding Rod Packs are common colours currently used by Wilderness Systems, Perception, Dagger, Mad River. The colour may therefore vary from that of other manufacturers even if it has the same name (e.g. Blue by Dagger may not be the same as blue by another brand).
