Surge’s kayak shaft Spigot is 27 cm long and has an external diameter of 26.3mm. Used to join two sections of paddle shaft together it is most commonly fitted with a joiner to allow your paddle to be split for easier transport and storage. It can also be used to repair a damaged composite (fibreglass, carbon fibre, kevlar or blended -not alloy) paddle shaft.
Made from a strong composite material this spigot will (when used with an adjustable joiner) comfortably allow 10cm of length adjustment when fitted to your paddle. It comes with length and angle markings allowing you to easily vary (and return to) any position and feather angle of your blade to suite different conditions, boats or paddlers.
Note the external diameter of the spigot should be very close to the internal diameter of your paddle shaft otherwise the fit will not be secure, you are aiming for a transition fit. Measuring your shaft internal diameter with a ruler is unlikely to give you the accuracy you require to judge this.
Please note that some shafts the tolerancing is not exact so you may need to use some fine sand paper.
Suffice to say best to measure first but even then you need to try it out.
If you are fixing a broken paddle you have a bit more margin as the glue or resin used will fill some gap but the difference should still be well under 1 mm diameter.
