OrigiNZ Rudder Blade Long

This lightweight and robust rudder blade, best suited as a replacement blade which you can fit yourself it will dramatically improve handling (over a missing /damaged blade, or a shorter or non foil shaped blade) , allowing you to easily turn and direct your kayak the way you want to.

Approx 50cm Long and 10cm wide this the longer of the two sizes made by OriginNZ. These paddles are commonly found on New Zealand made kayaks such as those by Mission Kayaks.

The reinforced plastic blade will not bend or loose its’ shape. The Foil profile results in quieter and smoother paddling and steering.

Cams are moulded into the rudder blade. These help by reducing the effort required to raise and lower the rudder blade. Typically this is done when moving from or into shallow water, Surf Zones or landing areas so it can be very handy if it’s a bit easier.

As used on kayaks such as the Mission Contour 480 and Contour 490 Tandem, it is compatible with any of the Mission kayaks but is a bit longer than some of the rudder blades fitted as standard (typically 46cm long).

Rudder raise lower cord and toggles are available from us separately (3mm black cord by the metre and coloured toggle balls).

This System is suitable as a replacement for the older (heavier) metal version of the OriginNZ rudder blades found on older Mission (and some new Zealand perception branded kayaks (Napali etc). However you may find it worthwhile to also replace the rudder housing at the same time.

You can fit yourself. Check the screws on your rudder as you may require a robertson head (square) or a phillips head screw driver depending on what fittings were used originally.
