This lightweight and robust rudder mount and rudder blade, is best suited as a replacement for damaged or lost rudders. Comes disassembled to allow easier installation of rudder raise lower cord.
Comprising Rudder box and rudder axle (and screws) as well as the 10 x 50cm rudder blade (but without the rudder raise lower cord. (Rudder cord is available separately or may already be installed in your kayak if replacing a rudder).
Cams to help with effort required to raise and lower the rudder blade are moulded into the rudder blade.
Rudder raise lower cord and toggles are available from us separately (3mm black cord by the metre and coloured toggle balls).
This System is suitable as a replacement for the older (heavier) metal version of the OriginNZ rudder blades found on older Mission (and some new Zealand perception branded kayaks (Napali etc). Replacing a discontinued metal rudder may require a pin insert adaptor sheath as this pin is a different size (but is more robust).
You can fit yourself, screws to install the blade require a robertson head (square) screw driver
As used on kayaks such as the Mission Eco Bezhig, Contour series (450,480 and 490) Catch EXP and other models, it is compatible with any of the Mission kayaks that are rudder capable, but may require and adaptor for the rudder pin for some boats where the rudder pin was originally larger.
Rudder Blade may be longer than the blade originally installed on some models of kayak. (50cm long)
Shipped in 2 parts. Installing the Rudder Raise Lower cord requires threading the cord through the blade and can’t be done when the blade is in the rudder housing. This is mainly to save dissembling.
Rudder Raise Lower cord installation comes from the cockpit area backwards to the rudder. (Toggles may be in front, beside or behind your cockpit depending on your boat).
- Goes in through the rudder raise lower tunnel on the rudder mount above the pivot pin
- Around one of the elliptical cams moulded into the rudder blade
- Through the hole in the rudder blade
- Around the other elliptical cam
- Out through the rudder raise lower tunnel
