Wilderness Systems Oval Orbix Hatch – Pre-2015 models

Wilderness Systems replacement Orbix Oval hatch kit suited to Wilderness Systems kayaks made before 2015 (And originally fitted with Orbix hatches).

May also be used as a new custom hatch for any make and model of kayak with appropriate deck space.

Does not include mounting Hardware (screws and rubber well nuts or Nyloc nuts) You should reuse existing hardware unless lost or damaged, replacements G316 stainless are available separately, ask if required) .

Wilderness Systems kayaks (with an orbix hatch) that were made in 2015 or later use this hatch here (The newer hatch is not compatible with this model the earlier hatch)

Some kayaks fitted with an Orbix hatch now may have been fitted with a rubber hatch in earlier model iterations (Tarpon etc). You can’t replace a rubber hatch with an orbix in these cases because the deck space layout prevents it. Replacement for lost or damaged Wilderness Systems Oval Rubber (and round) hatches are available from us. Again check for compatibility Kayaks Pre 2002 and some limited production runs (composite sea kayak craft, some models of plastic Zephyr etc) may use the Kajak Sport rubber hatches rather than the wilderness systems ones, again available here.

You can tell the two models of orbix hatch apart in a number of ways but the easiest is the seal. The earlier hatch uses a foam gasket between the hatch lid and hatch rim. The newer version uses a deep recessed interlock hatch rim where the hatch lid secures deeply into the hatch rim rather than resting against the foam seal in the earlier mode. Other differences include locking pins and holes for small padlocks etc on the newer model cam levers
